Happy Birthday Toast To Millie

July 24th, 2009

Dear Millie,

We’re gathered here to honor Millie

On her special day

She means the world to each of us

And there’s a bit we’d like to say

She’s our very favorite Aunt

We bonded from the start

The warmest, most fun-loving friend

With a great big generous heart

There’s nobody quite like her

She’s a sport beyond compare

She loves to be where the action is

And she’ll travel anywhere

A gathering at Millie’s house

Is a very special treat

She’s the hostess with the mostest

Serving yummy things to eat

Her place is always spotless

You could eat right off the floor

She makes you feel like royalty

From the moment you walk through the door

We’ve never heard her fret

About the hand that she was dealt

She just picked up the pieces

And went out to earn the gelt

Her girls are her priority

Always number one

Jan and Betty both reflect

The awesome job she’s done

Along the way with her good looks

She’s turned a lot of heads

But Millie liked her freedom

And decided not to wed

Although just like the rest of us

She came from Adam’s rib

There’s just no doubt about it

Millie started women’s lib

Still she ached to be a grandma

And it happened kind of late

But there’s no other kid like Ian

He was worth the wait

Now Millie is our matriarch

Though she doesn’t look her age

Always groomed impeccably

Like she stepped off a fashion page

What a mentor she has been

So strong and self-reliant

No wonder Millie is the woman

Whom we most admire

We wish you all the very best

May your cares be left behind

Let’s gather here again next year

With health and peace of mind

Friendship Poem

July 23rd, 2009

To Sally,

I can’t get over  our rapport

And how this friendship’s grown

I feel so close to you

Like you’re a friend I’ve always known

You’re just the dearest, kindest, warmest

Most considerate gal I know

It’s surely no surprise

That everybody loves you so

Your sense of humor can’t be beat

I laugh ’til I could cry

We’re such a combination

Everyone must think we’re high!

And each vacation that we’ve shared

Has been the greatest kick

If ever I was shipwrecked

You’re the one friend I’d pick

To someone who’s observant

We seem klutzy, I suppose

But when we won the tournament

We sure came off like pros

One thing  I so admire

Is a girl who really sews

The fashions you create

Speak for your flawless taste in clothes

And what a super mother

Meg and Dora will attest

And as devoted wives go

Richard knows he’s got the best

You’re very conscientious

About everything you do

But once you took a trip

Forgetting Richard’s clothes, it’s true

What boundless energy you have

Your stamina’s first rate

So busy yet you find the time

To work in real estate

I’m luckier than anyone

To have a friend like you

Here’s to your health and happiness

You deserve the moon, you do!

Limerick Toast To A Helpful Matchmaker

July 22nd, 2009

I fell for a big horse’s arse

Who found my dowry too sparse

He looked down his nose

At my hand-me-down clothes

The dating game sure is a farce

Tribute To Famous Dr. Reder

July 20th, 2009

At least fifteen doctors
Said there was no hope
I was stuck with my pain
So I’d best learn to cope

Then a very good friend
Who sensed my defeat
Said there was a doctor
I had to meet

So off with my ice packs
And ultra-sound heater
I jumped in a cab
And met YOU, Doctor Reader

At first when I saw
What you’d shove up my nose
I wanted to run
But with fear I just froze

Yet you reassured me
And swore I’d survive
Thought I had my doubts
Id be leaving alive

Don’t know how you stand us
Your strength never wavers
We moan and complain
And then ask you for favors

You never give up
On our mean aches and pains
And the way we show up
Every time that it rains

Your treatment has brought us
Relief beyond measure
But your friendship and warmth
Is what we really treasure

When I’m totally cured
Will I tell you, Sir?  Never!
I want to continue
To come back forever!

Retirement Tribute

July 17th, 2009

Tribute to Reverend Murphy

We’re gathered here to honor you
On this momentous day
For forty years you’ve guided us
And you deserved great praise

It all began one summer Sunday
Back in ‘54
Our little church sat waiting
For you to come along

You’ve had your hands full ever since
Saving all our souls
Though you were young you had great vision
And such lofty goals

Like adding on a parsonage
And a glorious new church, too
Your programs kept expanding
As our congregation grew

You’ve always been for progress
Moving us along
Building a community
Where we can all belong

With kids and grandkids of your own
You know of life’s demands
And with an understanding heart
You lend a guiding hand

Without you as a mentor
Youngsters could have gone astray
Instead they stayed in school
And some are ministrs today

More than five hundred students
Have gone on to higher ed
Your infludence was what it took
To make them forge ahead

You’ve handled them with humor
And the patience of a saint
But then you had those attributes
Before you were ordained

While some of us still struggle
With our ABC’s
Your active mind keeps learning
Racking up degrees

Under your direction
There  are services in place
We benefit from all of them
They’ve been a saving grace

Day care, education
Training that can open doors
Fuel assistance, recreation
Health care and much more

Young people starting out
Will have a chance to own a home
Thanks to your creative programs
They can get a loan

And seniors needn’t worry
Where they’ll spend their golden years
The housing which you plan for them
Has helped to ease their fears

We even have a Credit Uion
With all kinds of perks
Never do you cease to have
Ideas in the works

Ways to help the homeless
And families facing AIDS
Innovations constantly
Are being put in place

You have one thousand congregants
Whom you’ve helped pull through
Thank you, Reverend Murphy
We owe our lives to you!

Friendship Tribute

July 14th, 2009

On top of having the kindest heart
You’re beautiful, funny and oh, so smart

Your calls are uplifting, they mean so much
Just hearing your voice is a calming touch

There’s never a single complaint from your end
If things aren’t perfect you just pretend

Ending up in the Tundra is quite a shock
But through this whole nonsense you’ve been my rock

I’ve learned many lessons from the things you say
Now I put on a smile and get on with my day

Over time you’ve regaled us with jokes galore
So many of them have made us roar

You’re one in a zillion, a friend for all seasons
If I haven’t cracked up yet, my dear, you’re the reason

When I grow up, dear Judy, I’m telling you true
I want to turn out exactly like you

Happy New Year to you and your whole family
Tons of hugs and best wishes from Ted and me

Birthday Toast

July 13th, 2009

Today’s your birthday, Eddie
And we’d love to jump on the bus
To give you a hug and a pwesent
‘Cause you mean the world to us

There’s nobody more wonderful
In our hearts you rate mighty high
Considerate, kind and gorgeous
Ooh la la, what a classy guy!

The world may be having a meltdown
But you’re gonna shine like a star
With so many irons in the fire
And more talent than pickles in a jar

We’re proud as we can be of you
Enjoyed you through every stage
You’ve truly become a man among men
With more wisdom than those twice your age

Here’s to your health and happiness
A boost to your career
Children who come when you call them
With smiles from ear to ear

Birthday Invitation In Rhyme

July 11th, 2009

It’s Andrew’s sixtieth birthday

And I want to let him know

That He’s a super, special guy

And we all love him so

Please join us for an evening

Dining, dancing, all that jazz

Your presence would be wonderful

It sure would add pizzaz

Do keep this bash top secret, though

‘Cause Andrew doesn’t dream

That those of us he trusts the most

Could pull off such a scheme!
